Background

Kaeng Hang Lay or Hin Lay is influenced by Myanmar. The word “Hin” in Myanmese means Kaeng or curry and “Lay” in Myanmese means meat. The dish is easy to find as it is very well known nationwide.

 

Nutrition Facts

Ginger has various nutrition benefits, considered as an elixir, with antioxidants elements and fight against aging. Ginger keeps body temperature warm and helps perspiration.

 

Ingredients

  • 1 kilogram sliced streaky pork
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • ½ cup peeled garlic
  • ½ cup fresh galangal thinly sliced
  • ½ cup tamarind juice
  • 1 tablespoon curry powder
  • ½ cup fish sauce
  • ½ cup oil
  • ½ cup palm sugar
  • 3 cups water

Curry paste ingredients

  • 6 dried sliced chilies
  • 2 tablespoons thinly sliced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons thinly sliced shallots
  • 1 tablespoon thinly sliced lemongrass
  • 1 teaspoon thinly sliced galangal
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons shrimp paste

Phaneang Neua (Beef in ground peanut-coconut cream curry)

Background Beef curry is a type of red curry which is salty and sweet and thick with a nutty peanut flavor. Some Thai people believe that the dish is influenced by Indonesia since King Rama VI because the dish is similar to an Indonesia dish named “Rendang” which is made from thick beef but Thai are preferred thinly sliced beef.   Nutrition facts The dish is enriched with protein from beef and fat from coconut cream.     Background Khai – Pam or Ook-Khai is another simple dish made from eggs cooked in banana leaf cups.
