Yum, Thai salad, is a favorite dish among people in the central and the south. The dish is made with Bai Bua Bok (Gotu kola), dried coconut, dried shrimp and shallots.

Bai Bua Bok (Gotu kola or Centella asiatica) has been used in many conditions for thousands of year. It was used to heal wounds, improve mental clarity, and treat skin conditions such as leprosy and psoriasis. 100 grams of Bai Bua Bok provide 0.24 milligrams of vitamin B1, 238 micrograms of beta-carotene.

 

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bai Bua Bok, sliced
  • 1 cup shallots, sliced
  • ¼ cup dried shrimp, pounded
  • ¼ cup dried coconut, roasted
  • 100 grams shrimps, grilled or blanched

 

Dressing sauce ingredients

  • 1 ½ tbsp. palm sugar
  • 2 fish sauce
  • 2 lime juice
  • 2 shrimp paste, grilled
  • 5 grams bird’s eye chilies

Kanom Cheen Saw Nam (Fresh Thai rice noodles with coconut milk)

Background Kanom, the word is from Mon language, and Cheen means well cooked. So, it is assumed that the dish is influenced by Mon people since King Rama IV era. In summer, the weather is very hot so Thai people create the cold dish to serve during the summer. Its taste is a mix of sweetness and sour. The dish is similar to salads, and Kanom Cheen Saw Nam is accepted as a healthy dish.   Nutrition facts    About 72 grams of Kanom Cheen (Thai rice noodles) provides only 80 kcal. The dish is mad of pineapple and lemon juice which contain high vitamin C. Background Som Tam Laos is a papaya salad adapted from Laos, the menu varies up to each community. The main ingredient is the fermented fish and papaya. The difference named called is to differentiate between Thai and Laos papaya salad.  Formerly is known as “Tam Mak Hung.”   Nutrition Facts Som Tam Laos contains mineral from various vegetables and ingredients.
